In three separate cases, four women from the mainland have been arrested for stealing a handbag, a holdall and a mobile phone worth HK$9,000, while a mainland woman has been arrested for possession of stolen property, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said at a regular press conference yesterday.
In the first case, two suspects surnamed Guan and Xiong, both in their forties and claiming to be jobless, were involved. According to Leong, on August 9, Xiong stole a handbag that was left behind at a shuttle bus stop in Cotai. Xiong later handed the stolen handbag to Guan, while keeping the contents of the bag for herself, including a gold ring and Bluetooth headphones.
Guan and Xiong were arrested last Thursday in Rua Cidade de Sintra. They admitted the offence.
The suspect in the second case is a woman in her forties surnamed Liu, while the suspects in the third case are two women, both in their thirties, surnamed Xiong and Du. All of them told the police they’re businesswomen.
According to Leong, Liu stole a holdall that was left in a taxi by a mainland passenger on January 25. On May 25, Xiong and Du stole a smartphone that was left in a taxi by a male passenger from Hong Kong.
Liu was arrested on Saturday when she entered Macau through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) checkport, while Xiong and Du were arrested when they entered Macau through the Hengqin border checkpoint last Friday.
Liu admitted to the crime, saying that the stolen holdall was now in her home in Sichuan, while Xiong and Du denied the accusation.
Liu, Du, Guan and the two Xiongs have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Liu, Du and the Xiongs face theft-by-finding charges, while Guan faces a charge of possession of stolen property.
