Various sectors of the local community hosted a ceremony yesterday at the Macau Cultural Centre in Nape to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dr Sun Yat-sen.

Dr Sun, also known as Sun Zhongshan or Sun Wen, is widely seen as the founder of modern China. He was born in Guangdong’s then Hsiang-shan county near Macau on November 12, 1866. The county was renamed Zhongshan in honour of Dr Sun after his death in 1925.

Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On gave a speech at the event, saying that that Dr Sun had been to Macau many times when he was young.
