A 47-year-old mainland man took a stolen motorbike for a joyride in the wee hours of last Monday which was cut short by traffic police officers operating a roadblock, during which it was discovered by the officers that the joyrider had been overstaying in Macau, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said during a regular press conference on Friday.

Leong noted that traffic police officers at the roadblock in Avenida da Nave Desportiva in Taipa carried out identification procedures on the suspect surnamed Yu, who had failed to provide both his driving and identification documents, and confirmed that he had been overstaying in Macau, so the officers took him to a police station for questioning.

Under questioning, Yu told the police that he had been lingering in local casinos after entering Macau, adding that he started to hide in a hotel on August 5 after his stay permit expired, according to Leong. Yu also admitted that he had stolen the motorbike for a joyride from Avenida da Nave Desportiva early last Monday morning.
