Two local men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a drug case, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The two suspects, surnamed Chan and Kam, are in their forties, and both told the police that they’re jobless.
Lei noted that the police had been tipped off recently that suspicious activities were going in the Rua da Palmeira neighbourhood. Last Tuesday, patrolling officers noticed two men acting suspiciously in Calçada das Sortes and approached them. Upon encountering the officers, Kam immediately fled to a nearby shop and locked himself inside a toilet stall.
The officers repeatedly knocked on the door, and eventually Kam opened it. No drugs were found on him. Lei underlined that the police suspected that Kam had flushed the drugs down the toilet.
Police later found on Chan, who had not run away, and in his flat a total of 5.05 grams of heroin and 0.21 grams of methamphetamine with a total street value of around 3,100 patacas along with drug paraphernalia.
Chan admitted to purchasing the drugs from Hong Kong last month for HK$2,200 and smuggling them into Macau, and claimed that he had sold 0.5 grams of methamphetamine to Kam for 300 patacas. Kam denied Chan’s claim.
Lei noted that Chan and Kam both tested positive for drugs.
Kam and Chan have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). They face drug-taking charges, while Chan also faces charges of drug trafficking and possession of drug-taking paraphernalia, Lei said.
