The Rui Cunha Foundation held yesterday the opening ceremony of the solo exhibition “One Flower. One World”, presenting the artwork of NaHeYa, an Inner Mongolian painter specialising in Chinese art. The exhibition will be on display until this coming Saturday at the foundation’s gallery.

It is the first time the artist’s work is being shown in Macau.

NaHeYa and seven representatives of associations from various fields of art and culture, officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

A collection of 28 Chinese paintings are on display at the exhibition, with one of them representing a flower created from solid traditional pigments diluted in water on paper and “xuan” (rice paper), based on the painting techniques of “great or minimum detail, transparency and colour saturation”, according to a statement by the Rui Cunha Foundation.

NaHeYa was born in Tongliao city of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and belongs to the ethnic minority of Daur people (who are part of the Mongolian ethnicity). She has an academic background in Chinese Art from Minzu University of China in Beijing, and she is currently a PhD student at City University of Macau.

In her opening remarks, NaHeYa expressed her gratefulness for the opportunity to share her love for nature with the people of Macau, and to exchange knowledge with experts in the field of art in Macau. She also emphasised that her cultural background highly inspired her artistic style of simplicity and naturalness. “The adventurous culture, the propensity for opening new frontiers and the keenness on exploration are all characterised by the Mongolian blood in me,” she said.

Tam Chek Wun, the exhibition’s curator, was quoted by the statement as saying that NaHeYa’s rich academic background, work experience and years of dedicated creative effort had given her a deep understanding of the beauty of colour and form. “Through her exploration of the beauty of artistic language, she has opened up new frontiers, creating a simple and spacious white space through the interplay of forms and eye contact,” he added.

At the opening ceremony, guests were given a guided tour by NaHeYa in order to explore the elements and details of her artwork.

The ground-floor gallery is located at 749 Avenida da Praia Grande.
