The Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement yesterday that many residents have filed complaints with them about receiving SMS messages from impersonators of a courier company saying that their parcels were being withheld due to inadequate information.

The statement noted that the messages contain links that would take victims to a new page that requests them to input further information and pay extra fees.

The statement said that similar cases have occurred in the past, with the Judiciary Police urging members of the public to stay alert and not to provide opportunities for swindlers to get one’s personal information and money. One should verify through official channels if the messages are genuine.

One can call the PJ anti-scam hotline on 8800 7777 or the crime report hotline on 993 for assistance if one suspects to be a victim of fraud or other crimes.
