Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam announced a case initially classified as a dead body found, in which an 80-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself with a nylon rope from a clothes hanging rack on a balcony of her home in Taipa.
According to yesterday’s PJ statement, the victim was pronounced dead at the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre after emergency treatment to save her life had failed.
The statement quoted the victim’s son as saying when he got home from work at 7:20 a.m. yesterday he found his mother, who suffered from an illness, had hanged herself with a nylon rope on the balcony.
Upon preliminary examination of the body, the strangulation marks on the neck of the deceased were consistent with hanging and matched the rope, according to the statement, which noted that no injuries or fractures related to criminal offences were found.
The exact cause of death was pending the outcome of a forensic examination, the statement pointed out.
No suicide note was found at the scene.
