Integrated resort operator MGM said in a statement earlier this week that it recently organised its annual community event “MGM Family Carnival” for its staff, as well as local community members.

The statement said that the two-day carnival’s launch ceremony took place on August 26 at MGM COTAI. The carnival featured educational interactive games and family-friendly workshops, and aimed to “help strengthen family bonds and bring happiness to the community”.

The statement added that the event was themed Chinese traditional culture and included a range of nostalgic games and folk culture experiences that enabled the younger generation to learn more about their cultural roots and strengthen their “cultural confidence”.

The event attracted about 1,500 participants, the statement said, adding that aside from MGM staff, there were over 500 participants from families of six local associations, namely the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM), The Women’s General Association of Macau, Caritas Macau, Tung Sin Tong, and Sheng Kung Hui

The Macau Federation of Trade Unions is known as Gung Luen in Cantonese, while the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau is generally known as Kai Fong. The Women’s General Association of Macau is commonly known as Fu Luen in Cantonese.

Sheng Kung Hui (SKH) is the Cantonese name of the Anglican Church in Hong Kong and Macau.

MGM China Holdings Limited President and Executive Director Kenneth Xiaofeng Feng was quoted in the statement as saying: “Determined to promote and pass on Chinese traditional culture, MGM has organised this year’s event themed around this aspiration. By offering a variety of game booths and family-friendly workshops, we hope to promote our culture and cultivate a sense of patriotism among our new generation, whilst having fun with their families”.

There were six family-friendly workshops of various themes such as Traditional Folding Fan Painting Workshop, Culinary Workshop – Snow Skin Mooncake and Dumpling, and Traditional Dough Art Workshop, according to the statement. There were also “nostalgic folk games” for children, while the company also invited local performers and its Golden Lion team members to present traditional Chinese performances.
