MGTO promotes ‘tourism+’ at World Conference on Tourism Cooperation & Development 2023

The World Conference on Tourism Cooperation and Development 2023 was held at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing on Saturday, with Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes attending the conference and pledging to continue promoting the cross-border integration and development of “tourism+” in Macau, according to an MGTO statement yesterday.

Hosted by the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, the conference was attended by nearly 400 people from 40 countries and regions around the world, the statement said.

Themed as “New Trends, New Business Format, New Consumption: Jointly Creating the New Prosperity of Culture & Tourism,” the conference aimed to drive world tourism cities to embrace new trends, seize new opportunities, adapt to new business formats, contribute to new forms of consumption, and work together to usher in a new era of shared prosperity with an innovative mindset, distinctive decisions, and creative practices, the statement said.

In the keynote speech, according to the statement, Senna Fernandes shared Macau’s work in promoting “tourism+” with the theme of “Building a World Centre for Tourism and Leisure, Continuously promoting the cross-boundary integration of Tourism+ “, including taking various measures to attract tourists to Macau and extend their stay, explore the overseas tourist market, boost the economic vitality of the community, and participate in key work such as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Senna Fernandes also introduced the Macau Courtesy Campaign in her speech, in which all Macau residents are encouraged to be courteous and welcome tourists to Macau, promoting Macau to become a tourism and leisure destination in the minds of tourists, further consolidating Macau’s status as a “World Centre for Tourism and Leisure”, the statement said.
