A local 60-year-old man stole an ex-colleague’s motorcycle key and hid it nearby, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect surnamed Wong is a carpenter.

According to Lai, the victim reported to the police that on August 28 his key he had left in the ignition of his motorcycle parked in Rua Oeste do Mercado de São Domingos had been stolen. He told the police that a Kun Iam Statue, worth 10,000 yuan (11,100 patacas) was attached to the keyring.

Lai said that CCTV footage nearby showed Wong had stolen the keyring and arrested him later that day at the area.

Wong admitted to stealing the keyring and subsequently hiding it under a nearby window. He told the police that the victim was his ex-colleague and they had had a quarrel in the past. The keyring with the key and the Kun Iam Statue still attached was retrieved, Lai noted.

Wong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to Lai.
