The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement on Friday that the 31st Macao International Fireworks Display Contest, which was originally scheduled to start on Saturday evening but was postponed due to the inclement weather conditions, is finally slated to commence tonight.

The contest is now set for the nights of September 11,16, 23, as well as October 1 and 7.

The statement noted that tonight’s show, weather permitting, will feature Australian company Cardile International Fireworks to present a show themed “Thunder of Down Under” at 9 p.m., and Swiss company La Pirotecnica SAGL, which will present a show themed “Icons of Rock” at 9:40 p.m.

MGTO recommended the “five best vantage points” in the statement to watch the fireworks, namely Anim’Arte NAM VAN; the area from Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre to the Leisure Area of Kun Iam Statue Waterfront on Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen; Avenida de Sagres (next to the Mandarin Oriental hotel); the waterfront at the Macao Science Centre; and Avenida do Oceano in Taipa. All areas will have background music playing in sync with the fireworks.

The statement added that on the days the pyrotechnic shows will take place, the Fireworks Carnival will be held at Rua da Torre de Macau (the open-air area in front of Macau Tower) from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., while the “Fireworks Extravaganza” markets will be held at Anim’Arte NAM VAN and the Leisure Area on the Taipa Waterfront from 6 p.m.-11 p.m.

One can also join a lucky draw for a chance to win special offers and prizes by voting for the firework teams through online promotional posts or MGTO’s WeChat account, while the Photo Contest and Student Drawing Contest provides opportunities for shutterbugs and students to create and submit pieces until October 31, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, as the contest takes place during the typhoon season, the statement said that MGTO will closely monitor special weather forecasts by the local observatory (SMG), noting that adjustments will be announced as soon as possible.
