A jobless local man has been arrested after being caught red-handed stealing valuables worth 32,000 patacas from a car parked in Avenida do Ouvidor Arriaga by the vehicle’s owner, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said during a regular press conference on Friday.
According to the spokesperson, while the 58-year-old suspect surnamed Wong was stealing a black crossbody bag from the car that was left unlocked last Tuesday, the male owner was returning to the car, on discovering that his bag originally placed on the passenger seat was gone, and he then saw Wong rushing away from the car.
The spokesperson added that before PSP officers arrived at the scene, the victim had caught Wong not far from the car and recovered the bag containing the valuables.
Wong admitted to stealing the bag out of greed, the spokesperson noted.
Wong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an aggravated theft charge.
