A passenger who claimed to have been drunk attacked a bus driver by hitting him in the stomach, shoulders and feet with an umbrella at about 11 p.m. on Friday after the driver urged him to get off the bus at the terminus near the Zhuhai-Macau Cross-border Industrial Zone in Ilha Verde, according to a statement by the Transport Bureau (DSAT) on Saturday.
In response to the passenger’s violence, the bureau said in the statement that it would fully cooperate with the police investigation.
The statement noted that the bureau has instructed the public bus operator involved to sue the passenger.
In the statement, the bureau underlined that bus drivers shoulder the responsibility of protecting the safety of all passengers and should be respected during their work, in order to also guarantee bus drivers’ personal safety.
