Macau’s Pharmaceutical Supervision and Administration Bureau (ISAF) said in a statement yesterday that it has been informed by the Hong Kong Department of Health that the latter has found an unregistered patented Chinese medicine (TCM) called “Cheong Kun Pain Reliever Oil” in the Hong Kong market.

ISAF said it has confirmed that “Cheong Kun Pain Reliever Oil” is manufactured in Macau, and its registration number is MAC-C00001, adding that no abnormal conditions have been found in the products currently sold in the market in Macau, the statement said.

In addition, the bureau also confirmed with the manufacturer of “Cheong Kun Pain Reliever Oil” that its products sold in Macau and in Hong Kong have different packaging, and its registered packaging in the Macau market is sold locally only, and that it has not shipped products in Macau packaging to the Hong Kong market, the statement said.

To combat the circulation of counterfeit drugs, ISAF has been working closely with the relevant drug regulatory authorities in Hong Kong, the statement said, adding that it has set up a notification mechanism, where residents can contact the bureau’s hotline for enquiries on 859 833522 (during office hours) or 85983504 (24-hour telephone recording).
