A local man in his nineties with a previous theft arrest in August has been arrested again for stealing 3,000 patacas in coins from a vehicle, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The 91-year-old suspect is surnamed Chan.

According to Lam, the male victim reported to the police that a bag containing 3,000 patacas in coins went missing from his car left unlocked, which was parked on Rua Um do Bairro da Concórdia last Thursday.

After checking the surveillance footage at the scene, police identified Chan and arrested him in his flat in Fai Chi Kei district. Lam noted that Chan stole valuables from a car in August.

Chan admitted to the latest offence. Police found around 1,700 patacas worth of coins in Chan’s flat.

Chan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to Lam.
