In alignment with the central government’s promotion of developing sports exchanges in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), facilitating the development of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and further promoting exchanges and cooperation among sports associations in the GBA, the Federation of Macau-China Sport General Associations and the Zhuhai Sport General Associations signed yesterday a renewed Framework Agreement on Sports Exchange and Cooperation for a duration of five years, aiming to continue to promote the development of sporting activities in Macau and Zhuhai via a platform for sport exchanges between the two places.
A consensus was reached on the realisation of complementary advantages, resource sharing and information exchange in sports between Macau and Zhuhai when the two general associations formulated and signed their first framework agreement in 2018, which, according to yesterday’s signing ceremony at the Federation of Macau-China Sport General Associations’ headquarters in Nape, has achieved “good” results.
Local National People’s Congress (NPC) Deputy Kevin Ho King Lun, president of the Federation of Macau-China Sport General Associations, told reporters after the ceremony he believed that the launch of the Asian Games in Hangzhou at the end of this month and the 2025 National Games jointly held by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau would set off a sports boom, ushering the future sports exchanges and cooperation between Macau and Zhuhai to a new peak.
Zhuhai Sport General Associations Chairman Wu Xiangming told the media after the ceremony that the framework agreement was aimed at connecting over 100 sports associations in both Macau and Zhuhai, so as to jointly promote the sport-for-all fitness campaign in both places, supporting the appropriately diversified development of Macau’s economy.
The agreement includes the establishment of a communication and coordination mechanism and liaison group and regular liaison meetings between the two sides, as well as the strengthening of consultations and the implementation of sports exchange projects between the two sides, and the innovative development of traditional sports exchange projects between Zhuhai and Macau and other cities in the GBA, in addition to carrying out exchanges, training and joint events between sports associations of the two sides.
The GBA, whose outline development was announced in February 2019, comprises nine cities in Guangdong and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.
