The Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance said in a statement yesterday that the 10th Global Tourism Economy Forum • Macao 2023 (10th GTEF) is slated to take place from September 20-23, the longest since its inception, at the Galaxy International Convention Centre (GICC) in Cotai.
Marking its return in over two years, the statement noted that the four-day event, themed “Destination 2030: Unlocking the Power of Tourism for Business and Development”, invites “elites and stakeholders” of the tourism and related industries from around the world in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
The theme is based on the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The statement said that the event gathers “high-ranking officials, ministers of culture and tourism, industry leaders, decision-makers and scholars from around the world”, and conveys the idea of “thinking beyond tourism” as well as navigates opportunities for the recovery of the global tourism economy.
The event will feature discussions, keynote speeches, special interviews, case studies and “casual fireside dialogues”, aiming to inject new ideas and momentum into the “robust development of the global tourism economy”, according to the statement. Online business matching sessions will also be held for two days in a row, to be conducted in collaboration with Tencent Cloud.
The statement added that Macau integrated resort operators have been invited to join the forum as leading partners. Nearly 14 discussion sessions will be held, covering topics ranging from tourism trends to innovative measures implemented for high-quality and sustainable development in Macau, the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the mainland, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Moreover, the 2nd GTEF • Investment and Financing Conference will be launched on September 20 and will revolve around the topic “Innovative and advanced development – Embrace tourism investment and cooperation in the next decade”, with a focus on high-quality tourism development in China.
This year’s forum will have Italy, one of the biggest economies in Europe, as its Partner Country, the statement noted, while Shanghai is its Featured City.
The forum has welcomed nearly 12,700 participants from over 90 countries and regions, along with 152 delegations from various parts of the mainland since its inaugural edition, the statement said. It has also had over 600 internationally-renowned speakers, the statement noted.
The event will be held online and offline, as well as broadcast live. Replays will also be available for European and US time zones. More details on the upcoming event can be found on www.gte-forum.com or its social media pages.
