A local man has been arrested for crashing into the 22 roadside railings in Avenida da Amizade before driving away, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The 37-year-old suspect surnamed Si told the police that he works in public relations.
According to Lam, the police received a report from a resident at 3:50 a.m. last Friday that there were scattered pieces of roadside railings lying in Avenida da Amizade. With the help of CCTV footage, the police identified Si as the driver who had crashed into the roadside railings before fleeing the scene. Lam noted that the police attempted to contact Si on his phone number multiple times but were unsuccessful.
Si turned himself in at a police station on the same day at 10:30 p.m. Under questioning, Si claimed that he was exhausted at that time which caused the accident, and that he left the scene as he did not know how to handle the situation.
Si has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an evasion of responsibility charge, Lam said.
