The Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced yesterday that it has extended and interlocked water-filled barriers in Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus in Taipa to stop jaywalkers from running across the avenue, while also setting up signs on both sides of the road there to encourage pedestrians to use the zebra crossings.
In order to further prevent pedestrians from crossing the road illegally, according to the statement, the bureau has been liaising with other relevant government entities to carry out “appropriate” measures, such as changing the currently closed U-turn location into a green belt and setting up higher roadside barriers.
In addition, the statement said, the bureau has also been in discussions with public works entities about the construction of a footbridge in the area to ensure traffic safety for both pedestrians and motorists.
According to a statement by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Wednesday, their officers fined a total of 91 jaywalkers in Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus between January and last month.
