acau announced yesterday that the 2016 Macau Open Badminton tournament, which is officially sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and sponsored by the Sports Bureau, will be held at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion from November 29 to December 4. The tournament is also part of the BWF Grand Prix Gold Series with total prize money of one million patacas.
The local federation made the announcement in a press conference at Hotel Royal.
The event, which has been a feature of Macau’s international sports calendar since 2006, is organised by the Badminton Federation of Macau. This year’s competition will welcome over 200 athletes from 18 countries and regions including mainland China, England, Indonesia, South Korea and Malaysia.
The Macau team consists of 11 players, who will participate in the men’s and women’s singles and doubles.
