A male non-resident worker (NRW) in his forties was arrested at the Barrier Gate checkpoint last Thursday for spending over 495 patacas of the 500 patacas stored on a lost MACAU Pass, which he found in Taipa in July, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Lai noted that the suspect, who told the police that he works as a waiter, is surnamed Guo. It was not stated where the NRW is from.

The Public Security Police received a report from a local man on July 6 that he had lost his MACAU Pass the day before and later received a call from an unknown man who requested he provide his personal information to verify that he was the card’s owner, according to Lai, who pointed out that the victim had refused to provide his personal data to the caller and reported the case to the police. Lai added that the police later confirmed the unknown man as Guo, who got the victim’s phone number from the card and called him.

After scrutinising the police forces’ citywide CCTV surveillance system, Lai said, PSP officers arrested Guo at the Barrier Gate last Thursday. Guo admitted that he had picked up the card in a street in Taipa, claiming that as he had failed to contact the card’s owner, he used the card’s money to cover his daily expenses until he was intercepted by the police.

Lai pointed out that only 1.40 patacas remained of the 500 patacas on the card.

Lai said that Guo has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge.
