During a regular press conference on Monday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon disclosed two cases of suspected theft. In the first instance, a local woman’s flat was burglarised, resulting in the loss of HK$155,000 in cash and watches.

Meanwhile, a Filipina domestic worker had her backpack stolen, containing jewellery worth over 165,000 patacas.

Leng said when the local victim returned to her flat on Rua do Almirante Sérgio on Sunday evening, a male stranger suddenly rushed out of her flat. Despite her efforts, she couldn’t stop him. Upon returning to her flat, she discovered a loss of HK$155,000, including HK$5,000 in cash and three watches, according to Leng.

In the second case, the Philippine national in her fifties had planned to accompany her family for medical treatment in Hong Kong on September 9. Concerned about the high medical fees, she had packed 22 pieces of jewellery worth over 165,000 patacas inside a small bag, which she placed in her backpack. She told the police that she briefly left her bag unattended in her building’s stairwell for just over 10 seconds.

Upon arriving in Hong Kong last Wednesday, she discovered that the small bag had vanished. She reported the incident to the police on Friday once she returned to Macau.
