Two mainlanders on their motorised wheelchairs were reported crossing the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge (commonly known as “Old Bridge”) from Taipa towards the Macau peninsula at about 10:54 a.m. yesterday, according to a statement by the Public Security Police (PSP), noting that the duo in their forties and fifties were fined for breaching the city’s bridge regulations and Road Traffic Law.
According to the Road Traffic Law, the statement underlined, wheelchair access is equivalent to pedestrian access, which should never be used on a vehicular roadway.
The Public Security Police urged wheelchair users to always use pavements and pedestrian crossing facilities in a law-abiding and safe manner, so as to ensure their own safety and that of other road users.
