The government has launched a “limited tender” for the construction of a flyover connecting the Zone A land reclamation area and Nape, according to an announcement published in the Official Gazette (BO) on Wednesday.

According to the announcement, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) is asking construction companies to submit their intentions to bid for the project, after which the companies that have submitted their intentions will be ranked according to scores calculated based on four criteria, namely their respective general ability to carry out construction projects, construction techniques and experience, human resources, and interview results with officials.

After the score calculations, the bureau will invite the first five companies with the highest scores to submit their quotations, according to the announcement, which underlined that potential bidders are required to submit their intentions to bid for the project by November 29.

The winning bidder will be required to complete the project within 1,000 working days, according to the announcement.

According to the DSOP website, the 1,550-metre-long vehicular overpass, known as AB Link, will run from near the Kun Iam Statue on the Nape waterfront to the roundabout outside the Macau Science Centre (MSC), from where it will cross the sea running under the Macau-Taipa Friendship Bridge and finally land in Zone A.

In addition, the website says, the AB Link will also be connected with the fourth Macau-Taipa Bridge that will connect the Zone A and Zone E1 land reclamation areas.

The ongoing fourth Macau-Taipa Bridge project is now scheduled to be completed in March next year.

When the bureau announced certain details of the AB Link project on its website in late July, it said that it would be around 1,650 metres long, but the website’s current version says that it will be 1,550 metres long.

Govt launches tender for Zone A-Areia Preta one-way flyover

Meanwhile, the government has launched a public tender for the construction of a one-way flyover running from Zone A to the peninsula’s Avenida do Nordeste in Areia Preta district, according to an announcement published in the Official Gazette last week.

According to last week’s announcement, potential bidders are required to submit their quotations by October 24. DSOP officials will unseal the submitted bids the next day.

The winner will be required to complete the project within 550 working days, according to the announcement.

The new project, the public tender for which was announced last week, will be the second phase of the government’s “three-dimensional” traffic system at the busy Oriental Pearl roundabout (Rotunda da Amizade) on the peninsula’s north-eastern coast.

The first phase is a one-way flyover running from Avenida do Nordeste to Zone A by crossing over Rotunda da Amizade. This flyover came into use in November last year.

After entering the first-phase flyover from Avenida do Nordeste, drivers can choose “Spur A” that leads to Zone A or “Spur C” that leads to Avenida da Ponte da Amizade – the avenue leading to the Macau-Taipa Friendship Bridge.

The second-phase flyover, known as Spur B, will be 750 metres long.

Spur A and Spur C together have a total length of 830 metres.
