The operation of the Guia Hill Cable Car will be suspended from Monday through October 16 due to its annual safety check and maintenance, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement yesterday.

The statement underlined that the upcoming eight-day annual check aims to ensure that the cable car always operates safely.

According to the statement, the system’s annual inspection will cover its supporting towers, steel cables, carriages, and protective devices.

The cable car is scheduled to reopen on October 17 after the completion of its annual safety check.

The cable car runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except on Mondays. If a public holiday falls on a Monday, the cable car is closed on the following day instead, i.e., it is open on the public-holiday that falls on a Monday.

A single ticket costs two patacas, while a return ticket costs three patacas. Special concessionary return tickets for kids aged 12 or below and seniors aged 65 or over cost two patacas.

The aerial gondola lift system started operating in 1997. The ride, which takes just 80 seconds, is reputed to be one of the world’s shortest cable car rides. Visitors can gain a bird’s-eye view of the Flora Garden below and a panoramic view of a part of the peninsula.
