The Fire Services Bureau (CB) announced in a statement on Wednesday that a 22-year-old man’s left forearm was trapped inside a dough sheeter machine when working.

According to the statement, the man is a non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland, who holds a local work permit (colloquially known as “blue card”), working in a unit in Edificio Industrial Fat Lei in Travessa da Areia Preta.

The statement said the firemen went to the scene and dismantled the machine to free the man, and an ambulance took the man to the private Kiang Wu Hospital accompanied by the person in charge of the unit.

The statement said the man was found to have fractures in his left arm, and he was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.

The cause of the accident is subject to further investigation, the bureau noted.

The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a separate statement on Wednesday that the bureau is “highly” concerned about the worker’s injury, adding that it will assist the injured in the process of claiming compensation for the accident.

According to the DSAL statement, all employers are required to conduct a safety assessment of their working environment and to set up safety procedures and supervise their employees to carry out work in accordance with their working safety procedures, in order to protect workers’ lives.
