Wing Shya showcases his works at first solo exhibition in Macau

Photographer and film director Wing Shya (夏永康) is exhibiting his works at his first solo showcase in Macau titled “WING SHYA +853 MOMENTS IN MACAU”, which is being held at GalaxyArt at Galaxy Macau in Cotai.

Wing Shya, who was born in Hong Kong in 1964, “masterfully intertwines vibrant, intense colours from bygone eras with the serene and tranquil palettes of the present”, according to the integrated resort (IR) operator’s website,

The exhibition is curated by Sean Kunjambu, with the works showing glimpses of “Macau’s very essence” through Wing Shya’s mastery of light, colour and composition, the statement noted.

Moreover, the statement underlined that the exhibition also features [Wing] Shya’s recent works such as a selection of fashion images for Vogue Hong Kong that were shot in Macau, with images featuring South Korean actor Lee Jung Jae, among others.

Wing Shya’s work, the statement added, covers film, art, design and fashion. He graduated from Emily Carr Institute in Canada, after which he returned to Hong Kong and founded the award-winning design studio “Shya-La-La Workshop”.

The statement said that Wing Shya is renowned for his typography and as an outstanding graphic designer who won a raft of awards for contributing designs to the Hong Kong music and pop culture industries.

He was appointed by Hong Kong film director, screenwriter and producer Wong Kar-wai as stills photographer and graphic designer in 1997, collaborating on the films Happy Together, In the Mood for Love, Eros and 2046, according to the statement. Their collaboration has evolved into a raft of projects by 2019, ranging from motion pictures to art videos that cater to brands such as Saint Laurent.

The statement said that Wing Shya is an acclaimed film director. He made his return to fine art in March 2006, the statement pointed out.
