The Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) said in a statement yesterday that its director, Derby Lau Wai Meng, attended the 4th Extraordinary Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last week, as a member of the delegation from the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
The Chinese delegation was headed by the deputy director of the State Post Bureau, Zhao Min, the statement said, adding that Postmaster General of Hong Kong Post Tai Shuk-yiu was also a member of the delegation. The congress took place from October 1-5.
The statement noted that the main topics discussed at the congress were the opening-up of the UPU to wider postal sector players (WPSPs) and climate action for the postal sector, among others.
Moreover, the UPU Strategy Summit 2023, themed “People, Purpose, Progress – The Next Chapter for the Postal Sector”, was also held during the congress. It featured thematic discussions on “Strengthening the Foundation: A Single Postal Territory for Economic and Social Growth”, “Visualising the Future: Co-Creating Value for Citizens, Businesses and Governments” and “Multi-Dimensional Change: Development, Diversity and Dynamism for a Sustainable Postal Sector”, according to the statement.
