A Judiciary Police (PJ) statement warned residents yesterday of a bogus mobile phone app posing as the real one of OCBC Bank (Macau) Limited, whose name, logo, and interface looks very similar to those of the genuine one, according to a PJ statement yesterday.

The fake app can be downloaded from a third-party mobile application download platform, the statement said.

The police suspect that the scammers set up the bogus app to fraudulently obtain important information such as bank accounts, login passwords and transaction passwords, the statement said.

The police urged members of the public to download mobile banking applications only through official platforms (such as Apple Store or Google Play) and not from unknown websites. Anyone who believes they have fallen victim to online fraud should call the PJ’s 24-hour hotline 993 or fraud prevention hotline 8800 7777 for assistance.

This poster provided by the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday shows the details of the bogus OCBC bank mobile app.
