The condition of a camphor tree (Camphora officinarum) was found to be “rapidly weakening” in recent months during routine inspection, and the crown leaves of the tree were all withered and showed signs of infestation by diseases and pests, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, the tree is located on Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida outside Lou Lim Ioc Garden.

According to the statement, the tree has been on the government’s official old tree protection list since September 2016.

The bureau said it will continue pruning the tree’s dead branches to reduce crown weight, and also protect the tree against the harm caused by pests and termite.

The bureau urged landscapers, landowners and the general public to regularly check and follow up on the condition of trees before the monsoon season in particular, while also taking preventive measures to reduce the possibility of accidents.

The bureau promised in the statement that it will continue to monitor the situation of old trees throughout the city.

Anyone who finds abnormalities in any trees can contact the bureau by calling 2833 7676 or via “IAM Connect”, according to the statement.
