UM delegation visits S Korean universities

A delegation from the University of Macau (UM) led by Rector Yonghua Song (aka Song Yonghua) recently visited several leading universities in South Korea to expand its international networks and enhance exchanges and cooperation with other higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a statement from the public university yesterday.

The statement noted that the delegation first visited Korea University, where its vice president, Sang Kee Song, met with them, and signed an exchange agreement and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation between faculties. Views on further cooperation in student and faculty exchanges, organisation of academic seminars, and promotion of joint research projects were also discussed.

The statement added that at Ewha Womans University, its president Eun Mee Kim and representatives met with the delegation to talk about how to promote student and faculty exchanges and collaboration in talent cultivation, and signed a student exchange agreement and MOU. UM’s Faculty of Business Administration representatives also visited their counterparts.

An MOU was also signed by Song at Sungkyunkwan University with its president Jibeom Yoo, while discussions and exchanges of views on fostering student and faculty exchanges, among others, were held, the statement said.

At Kyung Hee University, the delegation met with its provost, Ohbyung Kwon, and signed a student exchange agreement, according to the statement. UM’s Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences representatives also visited the College of Korean Medicine of Kyung Hee University.

Meanwhile, at Yonsei University, the delegation discussed how to strengthen bilateral cooperation with its provost Eunkyoung Kim, and signed an MOU, the statement said. Lastly, at Hanyang University, UM’s Faculty of Business Administration representatives explored cooperation opportunities with their counterparts.

The delegation also met with Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Xing Haiming, and the Chinese embassy’s education counsellor Ai Hongge. The statement underlined that Xing “spoke highly” of UM’s rapid development and achievements in internationalisation in recent years, noting that the embassy will give full support to cooperation and exchanges between UM and higher education institutions in the Republic of Korea (South Korea’s official name).
