The Sports Bureau (ID) and the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee (MGPOC) announced yesterday that a running event around the Guia circuit will be held on November 5, starting at 6:30 a.m., in the runup to this year’s Macau Grand Prix, and anyone aged over 15 is welcome to participate.

ID President Pun Weng Kun made the announcement during a press conference for the 70th Macau Grand Prix in the Bank of China Building, with the attendance of Macau Sports and Olympic Committee Secretary General Andrew Chan Chak Mo and representatives from the committee and the local branch of the Bank of China (BOC).

Pun said during the press conference that the Guia Circuit enjoys an international reputation, and he was pleased to organise the running event there again, so that locals and visitors can participate and experience the circuit’s “charm”, while implementing the concept of developing mass sports and enhancing public fitness.

Pun said that it is the first time in five years that the Guia Circuit Fun Run will be held again. The last one took place on November 11 in the runup to the 65th Macau Grand Prix in 2018, when 2,000 spots were available.

This year’s running event, which will mark the 70th anniversary of the Grand Prix this year, will provide 4,000 spots for the public to register, Pun said, adding that the course has a length of 6.2 km, starting and finishing at the Macau Grand Prix Building in the Outer Harbour area.

The event will be open for registration from 9 a.m. this Sunday, and the registration fee is 50 patacas, Pun said, adding that the top ten runners in the men’s and women’s groups will be awarded trophies, and those who complete the course within the specified time limit will receive a commemorative medal and towel. He did not elaborate.

The upcoming Macau Grand Prix will be held on November 11-12 and November 16-19.
