Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said yesterday that digitalisation will push forward the appropriate diversification of Macau’s economy.
Ho made the remarks in a speech at the High Level Forum on Digital Economy of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) in Beijing.
The chief executive attended yesterday’s opening ceremony of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. President Xi Jinping gave the opening ceremony’s keynote speech.
Ho underlined that digitalisation will be the key engine of the nation’s modernisation with Chinese characteristics.
Ho also said that Macau was committed to strengthening the development of its digital economy and raise the level of its high-tech manufacturing.
The chief executive pointed out that Macau’s digitalisation drive will also create new innovation models for the further development of its financial sector. He stressed that digitalisation will provide further impetus to Macau’s “1+4” development model, which aims to consolidate the development of the city’s tourism and leisure industry while putting special emphasis on promoting the development of four new key industries, namely big health, modern finance, high-tech, and conventions and exhibitions as well as culture and sport.
Meanwhile, Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong addressed yesterday’s Thematic Forum on Sub-National Cooperation, while Commissioner Against Corruption Chan Tsz King addressed the Thematic Forum on the Clean Silk Road.
Ho’s delegation included a number of senior officials from Macau such as Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS).
