Sands China has recently earned the “Prime Status” and a “B rating” in the ISS ESG Corporate Rating, with the achievements making the company the leading performer among Macau’s integrated resort (IR) operators and positioning itself in the top two percent of the global leisure industry, according to a statement from the company on Wednesday.
The statement noted that ISS ESG, which is part of the Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) group of companies, is a globally recognised provider of sustainable and responsible investment research. It’s ESG (environmental, social and governance) Corporate Rating provides relevant ESG and performance assessments.
The achievements also highlight the company’s “outstanding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and its steadfast commitment to sustainable business practices”, according to the statement.
The statement said that the integrated resort operator and its parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp. obtained the Prime Status, with ISS ESG having assessed 117 companies in the leisure industry.
The award, the statement underlined, is only given to companies with “an ESG performance above the sector-specific Prime threshold” that require them to fulfil “ambitious absolute performance requirements”.
Sands China and Las Vegas Sands were also the only two companies in the leisure industry category to earn a B rating, the highest rating awarded this year in the category.
Moreover, the statement said, the company was also recognised for its “exceptional transparency level”, rated “Very High”, based on company disclosures, information shared during company dialogues, and alternative data sources.
Sands China Executive Vice President of Operations Sean McCreery was quoted in the statement as saying: As this is our first year participating in the review, achieving Prime Status and a B rating with a Very High transparency level showcases the remarkable success of our various ESG initiatives”.
He added that the company owed a “tremendous amount of gratitude to our team members, whose unwavering dedication and commitment have played an instrumental role in achieving this esteemed recognition.”
