Japanese singer and legendary artist Masahiko Kondō is slated to have his local debut at the MGM Theatre of MGM COTAI on December 23, MGM said in a statement yesterday.

The statement noted that Kondō is a prodigy who burst on to the music scene when he was 15 years-old, with his debut single “Sneaker Blues”, which went straight to number 1 in the charts, released when he was aged 16.

The statement added that Kondō made an “indelible mark” in the entertainment industry during the 1980s, becoming an “emblematic figure in the realm of pop music culture” and amassing a following across Asia, particularly resonating with singers in Hong Kong and elsewhere in China. This inspired a raft of renditions of his chart-topping hits, including the “Song of the Setting Sun” (夕焼けの歌), which has been recorded in 15 distinct interpretations, according to the statement.

As an expression of gratitude to his devoted fans worldwide, Kondō’s upcoming performance at the MGM Theatre, which is equipped with cutting-edge audio and visual technologies, will be accompanied by Japanese instrumentalists and his longtime collaborator and revered musician, Yoshio Nomura as a special guest, who once shared the “melodious journey” with Kondo during their early years, the statement noted.

Early bird tickets for “Masahiko Kondo Macau Concert” will be available from next Wednesday from 11 a.m. on bookyay.com, and next Friday for the general public from 3 p.m. on https://www.mgm.mo/en/cotai/entertainment/matchy-get-macao-2023

Tickets are priced between 688 patacas and 1,988 patacas. For enquiries, call 8802 3833.
