A local female infant was found dead after taking a nap in a nursery in Taipa on Thursday afternoon, according to a statement by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on Friday.
The statement did not reveal the exact age of the infant.
According to the statement, the Judiciary Police received a report from the Public Security Police (PSP) at 3:37 p.m. on Thursday that an infant in a nursery in Taipa was found to be unresponsive.
The baby girl was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment, but later was confirmed dead, the statement said.
After investigation, the statement said the infant‘s face had turned purple and she did not respond, following which the staff in the nursery gave first aid to the infant and called the police for help.
Upon a preliminary examination, no suspicious or criminally induced injuries were found on the corpse, according to the statement, which added that the exact cause of the death still needed to be determined by a forensic examination.
The case was listed as a dead body found, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) said in a statement yesterday afternoon that the bureau was deeply saddened by the girl’s death, and expressed its deep condolences, promising to support the bereaved family.
