Huawei (Macau Branch), the Association for the Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau, and the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM) are jointly holding the “Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Macao SAR”, between this month and December, according to a statement handed out during yesterday’s press conference about the contest at the Macau Science Centre (MSC) in Nape.

ICT refers to Information and Communications Technology.

While enhancing locals’ ICT knowledge level and practical ability, and cultivating innovation and creation ability by using new technologies and platforms, the competition aims to contribute to the construction of global digitalisation, the statement said.

Huawei EBG Macau Branch General Manager Jackie Li Yingjie noted in a speech during the press conference that the contest was themed “Connection, Glory, Future” with the slogan of “I. C. The Future”, aiming to build an international competition and exchange platform for university students around the world. Li said that the contest has attracted more than 1,200 university students this year, with more than 2,500 students in Macau receiving training by Huawei.

The statement said that the contest includes three stages: the Macau regional competition between this month and December, the Asia Pacific regional competition in February and the global final in May next year, pointing out that the contest will be divided into the “Network Track” and “Cloud Track” parts, requiring both written tests and experiments. Li underlined that the contest is centred on the hot-button technology fields, such as artificial intelligence (AI),  Internet of Things (IoT), 5G communication, and cloud, among others.

Li also noted that the competition this year is divided into college and secondary school groups, with the latter to compete in the practice of virtual operation experiments, enabling students to participate through the cooperation of three students and a teacher, jointly solve the scientific and technological problems in the actual situation, and cultivate students’ innovative and creative ability to use new technologies and new platforms.
