The private Kiang Wu Hospital announced during a press conference yesterday that it is using five kinds of Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine that have been used clinically for over 20 years, in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) orthopaedics, paediatrics and gynaecology, among others.
The five clinically used TCM medications for gynaecology, paediatrics and orthopaedics, produced and applied by the Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is Macau’s first batch of TCM hospital preparations from the mainland, (which arrived in the city on Wednesday), Principal Deputy Hospital Director Cheung Chun Wing, chief of the hospital’s Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care and consultant in respiratory medicine, said during the press conference, adding that as the first local pilot unit, the doctors in the hospital will treat their patients, according to the respective situation of the syndrome differentiation, with the TCM preparations, enabling local residents to receive appropriate treatment with the use of the “excellent” Chinese medicine varieties imported from the mainland.
Dr Cheung said that the hospital will continue to pay attention to the development of traditional Chinese medicine, continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with well-known medical institutions in the mainland, explore and import more high-quality TCM varieties, advanced diagnosis and treatment technology, aiming to enable its patients to receive high-quality, convenient and professional TCM services.
Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association President Tommy Lau Veng Seng said at the press conference he believed that the successful promotion of the cross-border use of TCM hospital preparations would improve the universality and accessibility of high-quality medical resources in Guangdong province while, at the same time, enhancing the “happiness, security and sense of gain” of Macau patients as they will no longer be limited to use TCM hospital preparations only in the mainland, which, he said, would “effectively” address local residents’ medical needs.
