Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has expressed his deep condolences on the passing of former premier Li Keqiang.
Li died of a heart attack in Shanghai on Friday, aged 68.
Public broadcaster TDM quoted Ho as telling local media on Saturday that he has conveyed his deep condolences to Li’s family.
Ho described Li as an “outstanding leader” of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the country who “made significant contributions to our country’s economic development and the improvement of people’s livelihoods.”
The chief executive said that Li “cared about, and well understood, Macau’s development and social and people’s livelihood issues, and strongly supported the Macau Special Administrative Region government in its governance in accordance with the law.”
Ho underlined that Li “also gave Macau important guidance and strong support to the promotion of the successful practice ‘One Country, Two Systems’ with Macau characteristics and to Macau’s economic development and the improvement of people’s livelihoods,” adding that Li “was deeply loved by Macau compatriots.”
The chief executive also said that Li’s demise “is a great loss to the Party and the country.” Ho also said that he “will always remember and miss his contributions to the country and the people.”
Ho also said that the local government would arrange the respective memorial service in line with the central authorities’ announcement on the matter.
Li paid an inspection visit to Macau in 2016.
