The works of the YUM-CHA ART GROUP are being showcased at an exhibition titled “The Typhoon of Destiny”, which is held simultaneously across three different venues of close proximity to each other.
On until November 19, the works are on display at ART YIIMA, Chan Hin Io Studio, and the Fatiões Exhibition Space (temporary). The three venues are near Santo António Church (St. Anthony’s Church) on the southern tip of the peninsula.
The exhibition is part of the “Local Curatorial Project” of Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023, and showcases pieces by the group’s members Chao Chi Chun, Konstantin Bessmertny, Chan Hin Io, and Guilherme Ung Vai Meng, who is also the curator.
A recent statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) noted that typhoons are a natural phenomenon that are uncertain and impossible to control, with the reality of the rapid development of smart technology and drastic changes in regional and international situations being similar to them, having a great impact on human life, habits, and the understanding of life.
“The world must accept a new order and challenges after the [COVID-19] pandemic, and when people are vying for a better fate, facing apparently blank prospects, they may ask themselves: How is the way forward after the storm? When will we learn to overcome the current fatigue and fear of brokenness?”, according to the statement.
The statement said that the exhibition attempts to provide answers to these questions through its exhibits, 10 in total, that were created through a combination of performance photography, large-scale sculptures, videos, documentaries and remote sensing devices, among others.
The exhibition is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 12 noon to 7 p.m. and is closed on Mondays. For more information, visit www.artmacao.mo
