The fifth annual !Outloud International Street Art Festival (響朵) presented two of its major events last week, featuring a Halloween themed parade on Saturday and large murals on the façade of Hotel S in Praça de Ponte e Horta.

Organised by the Macao Old District Promotion Association and the Outloud team, the festival aims to celebrate street art while promoting cultural exchanges and Macau’s heritage.

Between Friday and Sunday, 12 street artists painted large murals on the exterior walls of Hotel S and adjacent shop areas. The total area of wall space covered by the murals exceeds 500 square metres, making it the largest graffiti installation in Macau to date, according to the organisers.

The Halloween parade, co-organised by the local Big Mouse Kids Drama Group, showcased participants dressed in Halloween costumes as they paraded through the area. The event also featured percussion music and choreographed dances. Mabina Choi Leng Chi, who heads the local art organisation, told The Macau Post Daily that the parade drew inspiration from a recent children’s cosplay drama they had organised. “We wanted to create a parent-child activity where families could dress up and parade like a fashion show. We believe it brought joy not only to the children but also their parents,” she noted.

During the parade, young dancers made several stops outside the Ponte 16 hotel-casino and performed choreographed dances accompanied by original music compositions. The parade garnered a large audience and spread happiness to everyone involved.

Choi added that her group would also be performing in the upcoming hush! Kids event in Coloane this Sunday. The group will present an acoustic rendition of its performance titled “The Praises of Cat Warrior,” which was previously staged in June.

The Macau Post Daily published an interview with Choi and reviewed their June performance.

Choi noted that the upcoming parade would have a different format to the Halloween one. “Parents and children will be dressed in cat costumes and parade towards the stage in Coloane. The parade will culminate with the performers on stage, presenting a heart-warming story that resolves conflicts through love,” she said.
