The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) signed the “Memorandum of Cooperation in Establishment of ‘Advance Inspection and Cooperation in Supervision’ Model for Aquatic Food Animals Supplied to Macao” with the Gongbei Customs District in Zhuhai yesterday, according to a statement from the bureau.
IAM President José Tavares led a delegation to visit Zhuhai yesterday at the invitation of the General Administration of Customs, and signed the memorandum with Gongbei Customs District Director General Zhan Shaotong, according to the statement.
The statement noted that the memorandum aims to strengthen joint supervision at the source, ease cross-border trade in Zhuhai and safeguard the food safety and stable supply of aquatic food animals supplied to Macau. It also further reinforces cooperation in testing and inspection of the related products supplied to Macau.
The statement said that the preliminary assessment and supervision of approved and registered enterprises have been improved under the memorandum. Through joint inspection and sample testing in the aquaculture and transportation processes, among others, the efficiency of the various processes has been “fully improved” under joint supervision.
The statement added that the measures strengthen food safety, the quality of aquatic products, create conditions for convenient customs clearance at the border, expedite inspection and release of products at the border, and further facilitate cross-border trade between the two cities.
