This year’s open-water swimming season ended on Tuesday, with the lifeguards no longer on duty at the city’s two beaches – Cheoc Van (Bamboo Bay) and Hac Sa (Black Sand) – until May next year, the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) said in a statement yesterday.
The open-water swimming season in Macau starts on May 1 and ends on October 31.
The statement said that the bureau reminded members of the public to exercise extra caution when swimming or engaging in water activities at beaches when there are no lifeguards on duty, as the bureau will remove the swimming buoys from the swimming area of the two beaches soon.
The bureau said that during the open-water swimming season, lifeguards and paramedics had been deployed as usual at the city’s two beaches, and the bureau had provided 161 emergency services during the period.
The statement said the bureau will continue to conduct inspections on the beach, urging beachgoers to avoid water activities during inclement weather for personal safety.
The statement stressed that lighting fires, camping and riding bicycles or driving motor vehicles on the beach are strictly prohibited to avoid affecting other beachgoers.
