Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng (front, right) shakes hands with Premier Li Qiang during the latter’s visit to the Macau Zone of the Chinese Pavilion on the sidelines of the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) and Hongqiao International Economic Forum in Shanghai yesterday. According to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS), Ho briefed the premier on the Macau Special Administrative Region’s (MSAR) exhibits at the expo and Macau’s development drive. The local section of the exhibition is themed “Macau – New Era and New Achievements”, covering three main sub-themes: “Adhering to advancing with the times and improving governance levels”, “Persisting in pioneering and innovation to promote sustained and healthy economic development”, and “Looking forward to Macau’s future development blueprint”. The Macau Zone showcases “Made in Macao” items, local brands and food and beverages from Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs), as well as a variety of other topics such as Macau’s tax-related services and other professional services, and the city’s overall business environment and trade development opportunities, its involvement in the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and its role as a platform between China and PSCs. The GCS statement said that “the CIIE has become an important channel for Macau enterprises to ‘go global’ and expand into mainland and overseas markets.” Ho, who was accompanied by Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, returned to Macau last night. – Text: Staff Reporter – Photo: GCS
