The two-day Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre, which ended at 10 p.m. yesterday, drew a large crowd.

The bazaar featured a variety of music and dance stage performances, as well as 73 game booths and 14 food booths run by more than 90 participating organisations and associations, including government entities, schools, enterprises and student associations, with the aim of raising funds for developing new social services and optimising existing social work projects, according to a statement released by Caritas Macau on Saturday.

The opening ceremony held on Saturday afternoon was officiated by Caritas Macau Secretary General Paul Pun Chi Meng, Macau Catholic Bishop Stephen Lee Bun Sang, government officials including Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) Deputy Director Tang Yuk Wa and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) President José Tavares, as well as delegates of Macau six integrated resort (IR) operators.

In his opening remarks, Pun expressed his gratitude to all participating organisations and enterprises as well as those who have made donations and given their continuous support to Caritas’s ongoing efforts to make Macau a fair and just society.

On the last day of the annual event, a volunteer member from City University of Macau told The Macau Post Daily that as with the previous editions, most of the university’s fundraising activities in the run-up to the bazaar were carried out primarily by its students, in particular those who study social work. She said that this included a wide range of tasks from finding sponsors to cover the costs, designing the booth games and creating the materials needed, allowing them to be more involved in social affairs, while at the same time gaining hands-on experience in planning and organising activities.
