The Pharmaceutical Supervision and Administration Bureau (ISAF) said in a statement yesterday that Batch No. WG07 of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) “Huang Lien Chieh Tu Pill ‘S.F’”, produced by Taiwan-based Taiwan Three Mast Pharmaceutical Limited, has been recalled from the local market.
The product, which is used to treat dry mouth, dry throat, haematuria (the presence of blood in the urine), constipation and facial blisters, was found to contain an excessive amount of aerobic bacteria, moulds and yeasts, the statement noted.
The bureau urged local pharmacies to stop selling it, the statement said, adding that local pharmacies have been notified by their respective drug importers to recall the product from the market.
The statement stressed that the bureau is paying close attention to the matter, adding that residents who obtain the medicine from their neighbourhood pharmacies may consult their attending physician or pharmacist for “proper handling of the drug”.
