During a regular press conference yesterday, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong announced that three men have been apprehended for the purchase and consumption of drugs at a city centre hotel.

The arrests came after one of the men was slapped and forcibly removed from the guestroom by the other two men. The victim then reported the incident to the police, leading to the subsequent arrests.

The suspects comprise a mainlander surnamed Zheng in his thirties; a mainlander surnamed Wang in his forties; and a local man surnamed Ng in his fifties.

According to Lai, last Wednesday the police received a report from Zheng saying that he had been attacked in a hotel room in the city centre. Zheng told the police that he had met Ng through a social media app earlier that morning and was subsequently invited to the hotel room for a “drug party”.

Shortly afterwards, an argument broke out among the trio and Zheng was slapped and subsequently dragged out of the room by Wang and Ng, according to Lai. Zheng then reported the case to the police, who found 31 methamphetamine-laced straws, weighing a total of 27.36 grams, and some drug paraphernalia in the room.

The police arrested Ng and Wang on Thursday. Under questioning, Wang admitted to providing the drugs, while Ng confessed to purchasing the drug-taking paraphernalia. Lai noted that urine tests confirmed that the three individuals tested positive for drugs.

The trio have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing drug charges, according to Lai, who added that Ng also faces a charge of causing bodily harm.
