The Northern District Community Service Consultative Council held yesterday a regular closed-door meeting about the city’s barrier-free facilities, during which Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) officials pointed out that the bureau will prioritise the optimisation of barrier-free facilities at public toilets, wet markets, parks and service centres in Coloane’s Seac Pai Van public housing estate, as well as in the peninsula’s Nape and Zape neighbourhoods next year, according to the government-appointed council’s deputy convener Chan U Iong and member Xu Zhiwei.

Both Chan and Xu made the remarks during a press briefing of the media after the meeting at the Government Service Centre in Areia Preta.

According to the officials, Chan and Xu said, Macau’s barrier-free facilities including tactile paving and wheelchair ramps have been gradually optimised in three phases – short, medium and long term, with 514 barrier-free facilities in the streets in the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Civil Parish optimised in 2016 and 2017, in addition to the 282 and 138 projects which were carried out in the São Lázaro Civil Parish and São Lourenço Civil Parish in 2019-2020 and 2021-2022

The officials were quoted by Chan and Xu as saying that the bureau will carry out a study regarding the optimisation of other barrier-free facilities.
