Macau driver Leong Hon Chio finished first runner-up in the Formula 4 race of the 70th Macau Grand Prix yesterday, after ranking fourth in the morning’s F4 qualification race.
British driver Arvid Lindblad from the Red Bull Junior Academy won the race while Rashid Al Dhaheri from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) came in third.
Leong, 22, won the Macau Grand Prix’s 2020 and 2021 F4 races during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Leong told reporters after the post-race press conference at the Macau Grand Prix Building that he regarded yesterday’s race as a chance for him to prove his ability: “I wanted to see how far I can go, especially when my opponents are excellent drivers from all around the world.”
Leong pointed out that the tight racing schedule did not give drivers much time to adjust, but the results also proved that he could compete with international drivers.
Leong also said he was “satisfied” with the result, “after all, car racing takes a driver lots of time and money to be able to master the technique, and I believe that I did okay.”
Leong said he was “not sure” if he would compete in the Macau Grand Prix again next year.
The FIA Formula 4 is an open-wheel racing car category. Unlike Formula 3, there is no global championship, but rather individual countries or regions can host their own championships in compliance with a universal set of rules and specifications.
