A male room attendant from Indonesia was arrested last Monday for touching a female passenger’s buttocks with his private parts on a bus earlier that day, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hon said during a regular press conference on Friday.
According to Lai, the Public Security Police received a report from the victim, who is in her twenties, last Monday, pointing out that while she got onto a Taipa-bound bus in Rua do Guimarães at 1 p.m. that day, a man “intentionally” stood closely behind her and touched her buttocks more than 10 times with his private part. She said that as she was panicking, she got off the bus at Estrada Almirante Marques Esparteiro in Taipa, and later reported the offence to the police.
After scrutinising the bus’s CCTV footage, Lai said, the police identified the suspect as Kumara who is in his thirties. A PSP investigation showed that Kumara initially stood with his back to the victim after getting onto the bus. However, he then turned around and moved close to the victim’s back shortly after he noticed her.
Lai noted that the police arrested Kumara near the City of Dreams resort in Taipa at about 5 p.m.
Kumara, who admitted to committing the offence, has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to Lai.
